“Creativity”.

Many people hear this word and feel the lack of it, believing that they were simply born without having it.

Some other people believe that creative minds are different from common minds and are able to generate ideas non-stop, 24/7.

To be honest, the truth is not really close to these beliefs.

First of all, everyone is creative. And by saying everyone, I mean from a toddler who tries to find a way to make this hanging toy make a sound to an elder lady who adapts her everyday needs according to her body capabilities.

You can find creativity in many phases and situations in your life, not only during work.

Creativity should not scare us and make us feel like we should re-invent the world. It is all about adapting, evolving and exploring.

In order to take part in the creative journey, there are some important rules to follow:

1) Encourgage yourself to look and admire – discourage yourself to compare.

Sometimes we block ourselves by admiring someone else’s creation. Our mind plays this game that tells us “This is perfect, surely you can not reach this level”.

Well, this is a trap! Everyone has their own style, trust yours, take what you want to take from this inspiration and move on. Remember: you can always create something different and beautiful.

2) Sleep well, eat well.

Think of creativity as a “mind sport” which needs you to rest and eat well to provide you with results. If your body is tired, your mind is also tired. Sleeping too little or too much or eating junk food everyday, can really affect your creativity. Try to balance your lifestyle and watch the positive change happening.

3) Ask for opinions – filter them later.

Everybody has an opinion. This can be a really helpful process for you sometimes but it can also confuse you. Trust the people who are mentors for you in each case and filter their words. Keep these tips that can actually help and have trust in your work.

4) There is always room for practice.

Focus on your skills and encourage improvement. Yes, it is fine to rest, but it is not clever to give up. Do not persuade yourself that you are not creative because you are capable for more things than you believe. Your body and mind are made to surprise you. Conquer the day!

5) Solve the problem.

Creativity always responds to a problem whether it is functional or aesthetical. Analyze the case, find the core of the problem and imagine a solution. See it as a game, try it as many times needed to solve it until it makes you happy.

6) Have courage.

Over-do it! Make mistakes, it is okay to fail! Learn from your lessons. Keep creating and have the courage to share and feel proud of your work. This is the brave process we need to accept and embrace, because it can only makes us better.

Last but not least, remember that creativity is endless. Use it fearless!

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have”.
